Poulter lands award for Ryder heroics

Ian Poulter’s brilliant Ryder Cup performance has earned him the European Tour’s Golfer of the Month title for September.

Poulter won all his four games in Chicago, with many people pointing to his five closing birdies to claim a late victory in the Saturday fourballs as the moment that sparked Europe into life.

Jose Maria Olazabal’s side were six points behind at one stage, but stormed back to retain the trophy by a single point.
