McGimpsey holds nerve to retain title
The former amateur Champion and Walker Cup captain from Bangor went into the second and final round in this curtailed contest with a one-stroke advantage over Birr’s Billy Donlan, but it was Adrian Morrow, the recently-crowned Irish Seniors Open and European champion from Portmarnock, who provided the sternest challenge.
With 34 holes played, Morrow had clawed back the two strokes by which he trailed overnight and it was all to play for.
