Rooney gifts McIlroy signed United shirt

Golf superstar Rory McIlroy may have failed to collect the green jacket in Augusta on Sunday but the world number two had reason to celebrate a different item of clothing yesterday.

Manchester United fanatic McIlroy yesterday tweeted pictures of the signed jersey he received from Wayne Rooney which the English international had signed: “To Rory, Best of luck this year. Would love to see you at Old Trafford.”

McIlroy tweeted his appreciation: “Thanks @WayneRooney for the signed shirt! Hopefully see you at old Trafford soon!”

Ironically McIlroy’s girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki, is a Liverpool fan who wore a Steven Gerrard jersey as she warmed up for the WTA Qatar Ladies Open in Doha last year.
