Honours for Killarney and Cork

KILLARNEY has been voted the outstanding parkland course in the country by a panel of some of the country’s most respected golfing personalities under the aegis of the Golfers Guide to Ireland.

Furthermore, Cork Golf Club’s programme of improvements to their outstanding layout, covering significant alterations to tees, greens, bunkers and pathways has earned the mantle as the best parkland venue in Munster.

“This is clear recognition of the new status the club has gained nationally and internationally by the major improvements being carried out over the past 18 months,” said Cork Golf Club manager, Matt Sands.

The Royal Co Down links at Newcastle was voted the best links. The awards were presented by Michael Ring, Minister of State for Transport, Tourism and Sport who pointed out that “all the awards were decided by a national poll involving the golfing community in the country, so the significance cannot be underestimated”.
