DAVID RYAN swept in close to the end of the day at Monkstown yesterday to win the club’s PGA pro-am tournament and push Jimmy Bolger down a slot.

Ryan wins Monkstown Pro-Am

The Cahir Park professional could even afford to lose two strokes over his last three holes and still clinch the winner’s cheque as he handed in a three-under par 67.

Ryan laid the foundations for his score on the outward trip with birdies at the long third hole, plus the par four fourth and on the ninth to be three-under at the turn.

Ryan then made back-to-back birdie threes at 10 and 11 before losing those strokes again on the run-in, at the short 16th and the par four 18th.

Bolger posted a two-under par 70 but his finishing run had to be seen to be believed.

From the 15th hole to the 18th, he went eagle three, bogey four, birdie three and bogey five for a homeward spin of one-under-par 34.
