IAN POULTER, forced to take time off recently after hurting his knee playing basketball, is having treatment for a neck strain on the eve of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The world number six, playing in the European Tour’s flagship event for the first time since 2007 following changes to the course, has been suffering on and off for more than two months.

“It’s been looked at and they can’t find any structural problem, but it appears to go into spasm after sleep,” said manager Paul Dunkley.
