Casey and Garcia reach quarter-finals

Paul Casey recorded another hugely impressive win yesterday to reach the quarter-finals of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship for the second year running in Tucson.

Last year’s runner-up, seeded sixth and the highest-ranked player left in the event, has still to go beyond the 14th hole after crushing American Brian Gay 5&4.

Spain’s Sergio Garcia also progressed to the quarter-finals as he beat South Africa’s Tim Clark 2&1, while Ian Poulter beat Indian Jeev Milkha Singh 5 and 4. Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee was another 5&4 winner – he beat Japan’s 18-year-old Ryo Ishikawa.
