Harrington saves his bacon

WE’VE heard of food for thought. How about thoughtful food?

Harrington saves his bacon

Pádraig Harrington took mercy on is fellow US PGA champions last night by shunning coddle, Irish stew or even bacon and cabbage when choosing the menus for the traditional Champions Dinner he hosted at Hazeltine National.

“Steak and Guinness pie,” he revealed. “It sounds Irish anyway.

“I wasn’t going to have bacon and cabbage or coddle. I don’t like cabbage anyway.

“We were a little more sympathetic to what the players would eat. My favourite Irish dish is an Irish stew but it is probably a little too summery for that.”

There is also a Champions Dinner before the Masters at Augusta where Woods has served up cheeseburgers and sushi over the years.

Sandy Lyle had haggis on the menu following his win in 1988.
