Tour officials call for swearing to be reported

SHANE LOWRY may have escaped a fine but the European Tour has called on those clearly heard using bad language to be named.

Lowry’s step into the professional ranks was greeted with a warning of the presence of TV boom microphones after the ‘F’ word was picked up during his march to Irish Open victory at Baltray.

The 22-year-old only managed to escape a possible €500 fine due to his then amateur status, and the fact he was not a member of the European Tour. But the extent of audible bad language in broadcasts of tournaments is worrying to the European Tour.
