Legend Keane to be honoured
Keane played 52 times in the second row for Ireland at a time when there were not as many opportunities to win caps as there are nowadays and he also toured with the Lions. His swashbuckling attitude to life on and off the pitch endeared him to fans all over the world and he has had countless messages of good will as he continues his battle with cancer.
His friends are delighted to have an opportunity on July 13 to get together and to salute his illustrious career and this will take the form of a golf match – arranged in fact before that great rugby clash in Croke Park – of Munster v Leinster.
Golf days in recent times tend to be team events but this one will feature a series of matches of Munster v Leinster and golfers who will have the opportunity to don their provincial shirt and team up with a celebrity to play for their province.
In a fitting tribute to Keane, the two most recent captains of the Lions, Paul O’Connell and Brian O’Driscoll, have agreed to captain Munster and Leinster.
Golfers will have the opportunity on the day to play with some of the greatest rugby, gaelic and soccer personalities of all descriptions and also all the top figures from the entertainment world.
Organisers say it will be a wonderful day of golf when people will have the opportunity to mix with the greats and that night to sit down and have dinner and be entertained by some of the most interesting names in Irish show business.
Through Moss’s influence, there will be the opportunity to raise money for two worthy charities. Money on the day will not be going to Moss himself, but the IRFU Charitable Trust and the Stuart Mangan Appeal – both causes dear to Moss’s heart.
