GRAEME MCDOWELL’S success in the Ballantine’s Championship may have resulted in a change of schedule, but it is a welcome hassle for the Irishman as he seeks a place in the European Ryder Cup team.

The 28-year-old from Portrush takes a 30-hour journey from the picturesque island of Jeju, 60 miles off the Korean peninsula, to Florida today to take part in the CA Championship following his third European Tour triumph.

McDowell’s defeat of Jeev Milkha Singh at the third hole of a sudden-death play-off earned him the €333,330 first prize and 59th place in the world rankings to secure a place at Doral Golf Resort in Miami.
