Cabrera joy as US Open win lands Euro Tour award

ANGEL CABRERA has been named June’s European Tour Golfer of the Month after becoming the first Argentinian winner of the US Open with victory at Oakmont.

Cabrera carded a final-round 69, one of only two rounds under par on the final day, to beat world number one Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk by a stroke at Oakmont.

“I am very happy with all this recognition which gives me strength to keep playing at the highest level,” said Cabrera, who was Argentina’s second major winner after Roberto de Vicenzo’s British Open Championship triumph at Royal Liverpool in 1967.
