Coughlan wins award

Irish golf international Claire Coughlan has been crowned June’s Irish Times Mitsubishi Electric Sportswoman of the Month.

The 24-year-old from Little Island in Cork made a sensational debut for Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup against the US in Liverpool last month.

Despite the overall 10-8 defeat, Claire was unbeaten in her three matches.

She followed up with an impressive showing at the British Amateur Matchplay Championship, where she reached the last 16.

She began playing golf at the age of seven and has been playing competitively since she was 13.
