Australia's Shani Waugh defied the scorching heat in Pathumthani near Bangkok to claim a share of the lead in the Thailand Ladies Open.

The 35-year-old, winner of the WPGA Championship of Europe at Royal Porthcawl in 2003, carded a five-under-par 67 to lead with China's Hong Mei Yang.

In testing conditions - high humidity and 39 degrees of heat - at the Alpine Golf and Sports Club, Waugh registered five birdies, two bogeys and an eagle three at the par-five 14th. where she pitched in from 30 yards.
