Singh diagnoses ailing Tiger
The Fijian and South African Ernie Els have leapfrogged the 28-year-old at the top of the official world rankings following his continued loss of form.
Woods appeared destined to become the greatest golfer of all time after winning the grand slam of majors in 2000 and being the number one for over four years.
But Singh is now the top man in golf and will be trying to illustrate that at this week’s prestigious Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
After a breathtaking season, which has seen him bank over $9.5 million in prize money with eight victories, the 41-year-old had some words of wisdom as to Woods’ troubles.
He believes his rival’s downfall has arisen from his inability to focus his mind and adjust his swing.
“I’m sure he’s going to start winning sooner or later but at the moment I think his focus is elsewhere,” said Singh.
“I think it’s his body change a little bit and his golf swing change. As you get older you have to keep adjusting to your golf swing. I think your body does not stay the same.
“When he first came on to the scene, he was extremely strong. I’m not saying he isn’t strong now but you do slow down a little bit. The golf swing has to match your body ability.
“I don’t think he has progressed that way. There’s been a big change in his body mannerisms and his golf swing.
“I have adjusted accordingly and for the better and I don’t think he has done that. I think his body and his golf swing do not match like it did some five years or four years ago so he has to adjust that. I’m sure once he figures that one out he’ll be okay.”
World number two Ernie Els cannot catch Singh at the top of the rankings over the three courses - Kingsbarns, St Andrews and Carnoustie - this weekend.
But he can overtake Europe’s Ryder Cup hero Colin Montgomerie and become the biggest money-earner in European Tour history.
Winning the American Express World Golf Championship title at Mount Juliet on Sunday took his total earnings to €21.27m in 14 seasons.
The Scot, who will be partnered by supermodel Jodie Kidd this week, had a four-year start in amassing his €21.42m total.
The Dunhill Links Championship gets underway today with some intriguing pairings going out, particularly on the Kingsbarns course.
Spectators are no doubt going to have to battle the wind and rain but are also, no doubt, going to be blown away by the sight of Padraig Harrington and Kevin Costner, Thomas Levet and Michael Douglas, Paul Casey and Hugh Grant and Ian Poulter and Dennis Hopper.
Ryder Cup star David Howell will team up with actor Samuel L Jackson and he was delighted to be paired with the star of Pulp Fiction.
“I’m playing with Samuel L Jackson so maybe that’s as good a sign as anything that I have move up a level,” said the Englishman.
“I certainly wasn’t in line to play with him three years ago.
“That will be fun and I am a big fan of his films.
“It would be nice to get a bit of an insight as to what his life is like. I enjoy the format.
“I have always enjoyed the pro-am format and use it to my advantage by taking my mind off what is going on sometimes.
“That is why I have done well in previous years.”
