Munster finish opening day as the only winners
Having shared the morning foursomes with Leinster, Munster got the better of their rivals in the afternoon’s singles sessions to leave them 5-3 ahead at the end of the first day of play.
Sarah Cunningham put in one of the performances of the evening to beat Alice Davis of Royal Tara and so registered wins in both the singles and foursomes - not bad for her opening day on the fairways.
Title holders Connacht made a flying start to their campaign with an impressive foursomes display against Ulster yesterday morning. Emma Gilmore and Ann McCormack overcame Danielle McVeigh and Charlene Reid (2/1) and Fiona Carroll and Laura Holmes disposed of Victoria Bradshaw and Louise Coffey (7/6), with a devastating display of birdies.
Munster and Leinster had shared their foursomes. Orla Dunphy and Alice Davis registered the Leinster win with their 2/1 victory over Naoimh McMahon and Orla Murray, but Munster hit back courtesy of Limerick’s Linda Toomey and Sarah Cunningham from Ennis, who overcame the challenge of Sinéad Slater and Leanne Brennan to win 3/2.
