THE United States team lacked the team spirit to win this year’s Ryder Cup claimed one of Europe’s unlikely last day heroes Phillip Price yesterday.

The 36-year-old Welshman pulled off one of the stunning results of the final day singles when he beat American superstar Phil Mickelson regarded by captain Curtis Strange as one of his bankers for a point 3 and 2 as the Europeans won 15.5 to 12.5.

However, Price told BBC Radio Five Live he believed it was less to do with individual heroics and more to do with the better team spirit in the European camp than in the Americans which had won the day. "They just don't seem to gel that well," said Price, who recently failed to win his card for the USPGA tour.
