Instead of a well deserved break, many undertook mammoth plane journeys yesterday to San Francisco for the €6.2 million American Express World Championship.

After finishing 41st in the Dunhill Links Championship, Paul McGinley will see this as a welcome opportunity to bank a whole lot more Ryder Cup points. He is in the mood to make an impression having finished tied third in the most recent World Championships NEC Invitational at Akron in August. He is part of a 33-strong European Tour challenge at the Harding Park club.
