Tempo win emotional final

Tempo 0-15 Lisnaskea 1-4
The fitting tribute that Lisnaskea so badly wanted for Brian Óg Maguire just didn’t materialise on Saturday night as they failed to deliver a Fermanagh title.

The death of their most inspirational player in an industrial accident two weeks ago meant raw emotion was never going to be far from the surface.

They had hoped for a positive result to a traumatic few weeks and tried hard, maybe too hard, to beat Tempo but fell flat in the second half.

A goal from Ryan Glancy four minutes after the break put Lisnaskea 1-3 to 0-4 ahead but they were outscored by 0-11 to 0-1 for the remainder of the game as Tempo ran riot, winning their first title since 1973.

“When Tempo started to stretch their lead, it was then we struggled with the events of the last few weeks,” said emotional Lisnaskea manager Mark Henry afterwards.

“We tried to concentrate on football but Brian Óg’s death was always going to be in the background. Look around at our players now and you can see the impact it has had.”

Lisnaskea needed everything to go right for them on a difficult night but lost county defender John Woods to injury at half-time and Tempo had big performances from Fermanagh stars Ryan Keenan and Damien Kelly who scored 0-7 from play between them.
