Former senior kingpins Carrick Davins back in the top ranks

Davins, who won senior titles in 1966 and 1967, produced a strong second half performance against Arravale Rovers at Semple Stadium to collect the title. Davins led 0-6 to 0-5 at half-time but outscored Rovers 1-7 to 1-1 in the second half to run out six-point winners.

Davins looked the more dangerous attacking side throughout and finished the game with all six of their starting forwards on target from play, as Rovers went 27 minutes without a score in the second half. Rovers, intermediate champions in 1997, managed just 1-4 from play over the hour but got off to an ideal start within two minutes of the restart.
