Davy Fitzgerald demands more protection for match winner Shane O’Donnell

Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald used yesterday’s Munster SHL game to call for more protection for his forward, Shane O’Donnell, saying the Éire Óg clubman is “absolutely killed” when he gets possession.

“I thought Shane did very well when he came on. He caught a great ball and was held up — I don’t know how it was a free out,” he said.

“It should have been a penalty, I thought. To me, he finds it very tough to get frees and it’s something that needs to be seriously looked at, because it’s something that happens every time he gets the ball. He’s just getting absolutely killed.
