Sam Mulroy's club season in major doubt after damaging shoulder

Louth captain Sam Mulroy’s season appears to be over after damaging his shoulder in a club championship game on Monday.

Mulroy was replaced just seconds into defending champions Naomh Máirtín’s group game defeat to St Joseph’s in Darver.

The 2025 All-Star was in serious discomfort following the injury and LMFM report what was initially thought to be a wrist problem was a shoulder setback, which would sideline him for several weeks.

A MRI scan will reveal the extent of the problem although Mulroy, who owns his own fitness company based in his club’s grounds in Monasterboice, is known to be a quick healer.

In March last year, he suffered a hamstring injury that threatened to impact his season. Two months later, he guided Louth to a famous Leinster final victory, the county’s first in 48 years.

Three years ago, the 28-year-old endured a similar setback and was back well ahead of schedule. In late 2017, he dislocated his ankle and returned to action just four months later.

Despite their loss, Naomh Máirtín can qualify for the quarter-finals of the Louth SFC provided they beat St Fechin’s in their final round game in Ardee this Sunday.

Meanwhile, referee Liam Gordon is set for a spell on the sidelines after the hurling official tore his meniscus. 

Gordon will miss the Galway SHC.
