Oisín McConville to lead Wicklow in Sam Maguire campaign

McConville had been linked with other counties but he will manager Wicklow for a fifth season

Oisín McConville will lead Wicklow’s footballers into next year’s Sam Maguire Cup.

The county board has confirmed the Armagh native will remain in charge having guided the county to the Tailteann Cup with a dramatic comeback win over Down in July’s final.

As was the case last year, McConville’s name had been linked to other counties, but the 2002 All-Ireland SFC winner will complete the second of a two-year term in what will be his fifth season at the helm.

The 2002 All-Ireland SFC winner was appointed manager in September 2022. This year’s Tailteann Cup success was preceded by semi-final and quarter-final appearances in 2025 and ’24 respectively. In his first season, he brought Wicklow to Division 3. They were relegated the following year and in both 2025 and ’26 finished one point short of promotion.

Wicklow GAA also confirmed Jonathan “Bosco” O’Neill will remain in charge of the the senior hurlers for a fourth season, while Ciarán Goff and Liam Kavanagh are in place in the U20 and minor hurling positions.

The county have yet to appointed U20 and minor football managers. “The drive, the pride, and the hunger to push Wicklow to new heights has never been stronger,” read the Wicklow statement.
