Brian Hayes to miss St Finbarrs’ PSHC final round game with ankle injury

Brian Hayes will miss St Finbarrs’ PSHC final round game against Newcestown on Sunday with an ankle injury.

The 2025 All Star and hurler of the year nominee was replaced at half-time in last Sunday week’s victory over Bride Rovers having scored three points.

It is not believed the injury was to his Achilles, but it may rule him out for a number of weeks.

“He won’t be playing next weekend,” confirmed manager Paudie Murray. “There is damage done.”

Murray is also planning without Jack Cahalane, who injured his hamstring in the same game in Páirc Uí Rinn. It’s not expected Hayes will be available for the club’s footballers either when they conclude their group campaign against Mallow in Kilworth on Sunday week.

Against Galway in March in SuperValu Páirc Ui Chaoimh last year, Hayes suffered a knee injury but was fit to start the Division 1 final win over Tipperary two weeks later.

Following the second-round win, Murray questioned the state of the Páirc Uí Rinn surface: “The worry we have is that two of our major players are in trouble again.

"I just wonder about this pitch. Lots of injuries coming out of it this year and last year. It's a major worry, and they're all leg injuries.”
