Cork SHL: Carrigtwohill fight to vital draw as Midleton maintain perfect record

Carrigtwohill held Blackrock to a 0-21 to 1-18 draw at home in the RedFM Hurling League Division 1, pushing them up to seventh and improving their chances of avoiding relegation. The Rockies needed a late levelling score from Robbie Cotter – who finished with 0-6 (three from play) – to secure a point.
Walsh brothers Seán and Patrick impressed once more for Carrig, Seán scoring 0-9 (six from play) while Patrick hit 0-4 from play. Carrigtwohill had led at the break, 0-12 to 1-6, while Ian O’Keeffe had hit the net for the Rockies.
The visitors clawed their way back, Daniel Meaney briefly moved the Rockies in front, but in added time, Carrig regained the lead before Cotter levelled at the death.
The Barrs dealt Sarsfields their second defeat of the campaign, winning 2-17 to 0-19 at Riverstown, Jack Cahalane the star of the show as he bagged 1-3 for the Togher outfit. The other St Finbarr’s goalscorer was Conor McCarthy – the young forward continuing to impress – while Ben Cunningham top-scored with 0-10 (two from play).

Jack O’Connor (0-4) and Bryan Murphy (0-3) did well for Sarsfields, but the second-half goals from McCarthy and Cahalane pushed the visitors clear as they grabbed a third win in four.

Conditions ensured a low-scoring affair as the Glen led 0-11 to 0-6 after 30 minutes. Conor Lehane and Killian McDermott brought the Midleton deficit down to two by half time, and they forged ahead in the second half.
Dean Brosnan impressed for the Glen with 0-3, while Lehane and McDermott scored 0-4 from play each.
Killeagh secured their first win of the campaign and first top flight victory since 2022. Ryan McCarthy netted two goals and John Ogbebor scored one as they beat Fr O’Neill’s 3-13 to 0-17 in Aghavine.
The result left O’Neill’s bottom of the table with no points after four games. O’Neill’s had led midway through the first half but they were pegged back before half time, and would not be able to catch Killeagh in the second half. Midfielders Evan Lane and Ciaran Leahy impressed, while Eoghan Keniry and David Buckley scored 0-3 each for Killeagh. Kevin O’Sullivan top scored for O’Neill’s with 0-10 total (0-3 from play).
In the other Division 1 game, Douglas produced a five-point home win against Charleville, 1-18 to 1-13. They enjoyed the services of Cork hurler Shane Kingston, and he made it count. Kingston finished the game with 0-13, including six points from play.
Charleville had led at the break – 1-6 to 0-6 – but a strong start to the second half saw Douglas close the gap, before Kingston teed up Charlie Lucas for a 47th minute goal that put them out of reach. David Forde did well for Charleville, scoring 1-2.
In Division 2, Bride Rovers remain unbeaten but were denied a fourth win at the death, as Carrigaline goaled to secure a draw, leaving it 1-21 apiece at the finish. Adam Walsh scored 0-9 (0-1 from play) for Bride Rovers, while Conleith Ryan grabbed 0-3.
Cork panellist Brian Roche was available in the first half and scored 1-1 for Rovers.
Kanturk snatched victory in added time from Newcestown, when James Fitzpatrick fired over the winner in added time to ensure an 0-17 to 0-16 win. Cork hurler Brian O’Sullivan top-scored for Kanturk with 0-9 (0-1 from play) while Colin Walsh and Lorcan McLoughlin scored 0-2 each. Richard O’Sullivan scored 0-8 (0-2 from play) for Newcestown.
Erin’s Own moved to the top of the table in Division 2 after a huge 1-22 to 0-13 win over Ballincollig. Despite only leading by a point at the break, they produced a dominant second half to win by 12.
Newtownshandrum comfortably saw off Na Piarsaigh, winning 0-21 to 1-12 at the Fairhill venue.
In Division 3, there’s now a four-way tie at the top of the table as Courcey Rovers, Inniscarra, Blarney and Bandon all have six points from the first four rounds. Courceys inflicted Blarney’s first defeat of the campaign, winning 3-21 to 0-19, while Bandon edged Ballinhassig, 1-21 to 2-15.
Fermoy overcame Castlelyons 0-19 to 0-16, while Inniscarra won 2-19 to 0-20 over Lisgoold.
Watergrasshill remain top of Division 4 after defeating Cloughduv, 3-21 to 1-16, with Aghabullogue in second after they got the better of Bishopstown, 1-16 to 1-13. Kildorrery got their first win of the campaign as they beat St Catherine’s, 2-17 to 0-20.
Dungourney picked up their fourth straight Division 5 victory against Tracton, winning 1-19 to 0-15, which leaves them two points ahead of second-placed Midleton, after they hammered Youghal 2-26 to 3-7.
