Cork dual player Hannah Looney has joined AFLW side Hawthorn, her departure continuing a mini exodus from the Cork camogie set-up.
28-year-old Looney was selected as Pick 51 in the 2025 Draft and becomes the fourth Irish player in the present Hawthorn squad, joining Galway’s Áine McDonagh, Mayo’s Aileen Gilroy, and Niamh Martin of Tipperary.
Looney is an All-Ireland senior winner in both codes. She has been part of six All-Ireland winning Cork camogie sides, as well as featuring off the bench during the county’s run to 2016 All-Ireland ladies football glory.
A 2021 All-Star recipient in ladies football, Looney is the holder of four further All-Star camogie gongs.
She first joined the county camogie set-up midway through the 2014 campaign when only 17. Last August’s defeat to Galway, where she was red-carded for an off-the-ball challenge on Carrie Dolan late in the first half, represented her 10th involvement on the concluding afternoon of the camogie championship.
Looney’s AFLW move quickly follows in the footsteps of fellow Cork dual player Aoife Healy, who signed for Fremantle last week.
Between AFLW moves, emigration, and retirement, Cork camogie boss Ger Manley could be without up to nine players from the panel whose three-in-a-row All-Ireland quest came up one-point short of Galway four months ago.
Elsewhere this Monday, North Melbourne have announced the signing of Sarah Wall, where the Meath player will join up with her sister Vikki.
