A free-scoring inside line helped Tralee CBS to a facile victory over an overwhelmed and overrun Cashel Community School, to record their second victory in Group 3 of the 2025/2026 Corn Uí Mhuirí. Victory secures top spot, with a game to spare, while Cashel still have a chance of making the knockouts, needing a victory over St. Pat's, Castleisland in round three.
Played on UL’s Maguires pitches, where the artificial surface allowed for a fast game, the Tipperary school were simply no match for the Kerry outfit.
Ronan Carroll and Nick Lacey led the charge for Marc Ó Sé’s youngsters, with Carroll in particular catching the eye. Still without star Gearoid White, who was an unused substitute, the Tralee students shook off a ropey start to all but secure this victory well before half-time.
With the two-point arc still missing from the 4G surface, the kick-outs reverted to the old, short ‘D’, with no-two pointers scored during a loose contest. Instead, the winners sought both Carroll and Lacey with great frequency, before Carroll was subbed off just before the three-quarter-mark.
At this point, it was 2-17 to 1-3, with the Austin Stacks star just after setting up his side's second goal, supplying Kerins O’Rahilly’s Lacey. The other goal was from the towering full-forward, who curled over point after point to open a huge gap between the sides.
Despite all this, the Tipperary side started strongly with a goal from Briain O’Donoghue giving them a 1-0 to 0-1 lead after three minutes. A three-up breach saw Charlie Walsh slot a point but from here, there was 12 unanswered points at the other end to all-but confirm the superiority of CBS.
During this run, Cian McKenna, Eoin Flaherty, Ryan Hurley and Martin McKivergan all getting in on the act. Quick on their own kick-outs to restart, the Kerrymen made the Tipperary restart challenging, and thus the platform for the win.
It was 0-14 to 1-2 by the change of ends and with another 1-3 going the way of the men in blue, there was another spell of scoreboard dominance. In reply, eventually, came a Walsh free, but the reply, a powerful finish from Lacey.
Able to roll five subs from the bench, Tralee tagged on a handful of white flags. Cashel, to their credit, had impact from Harry Hickey. He played a major role in their second goal, by fetching a kickout, while the attacker also curled over two more points.
Cashel will conclude their group phase with a tie against St. Pat’s, Castleisland, while holders Mercy Mounthawk will likely provide stiffer in this competition in two weeks' time.
