Roscommon forward Ciaráin Murtagh has announced his retirement from senior inter-county football.
Murtagh, who captained his county to a Connacht title in 2017, is the second stalwart to step away after the 2025 season. Donie Smith confirmed his retirement last July.
The St. Faithleach’s man made his senior debut against Longford in the 2014 National League and went on to make 122 appearances for the county.
He won four National League Division 2 titles and one Division 3 title. The 2017 provincial triumph was particularly special given his brothers, Brian and Diarmuid, were also part of the squad.
“On behalf of everyone in Roscommon GAA, I would like to sincerely thank Ciaráin for his incredible dedication, loyalty, and commitment to Roscommon GAA,” said chairperson Brian Carroll.
“Since making his debut in 2014, Ciaráin has been an integral part of so many of our most memorable days. Off the pitch, he has always been a top-class person — a leader, a gentleman, and someone who brought positivity and spirit to the dressing room every single day. He will be greatly missed by teammates, management, and supporters alike.” Meanwhile, Dublin GAA have announced the appointment of Marcus Ó Buachalla as its new Chief Commercial Officer.
The current Head of Communications and Media with Leinster Rugby, Ó Buachalla will be responsible for the management, growth and evolution of the Dublin GAA commercial and marketing model. He will take up his role in December.
