Ger Manley mentioned the phrase ‘sour grapes’ on three separate occasions during his post-match interview. He was at pains not to come across as an ungracious losing manager. By the same token, though, he had a view on Justin Heffernan’s refereeing, and he wanted to make it. His view was that Heffernan's performance was “shocking”.

His roll call of the game’s key decisions are as follows: Hannah Looney’s red card was “very harsh” and nothing more than “physical contact”, while the winning free, won and converted by Carrie Dolan, was a “dive” by the Galway captain and a “very harsh” call.
