Team news: Barrett returns for Cork, Limerick unchanged, McCarthy named on Tipp bench

In football, Diarmuid O’Connor is set to make his first appearance for Kerry in two months as he has been named in the team to face Roscommon in Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday.

Shane Barrett for Seamus Harnedy is the only difference in the Cork team named to face Limerick in TUS Gaelic Grounds in Sunday’s Munster SHC Round 4 clash.

Barrett returns to the squad having sat out the comprehensive Round 2 victory over Tipperary through suspension when Harnedy played the entire 70-plus minutes.

The 24-year-old was issued a red card in the second half of the opening round draw with Clare after Ennis after lashing out at David Reidy and handed a one-game ban.

The Blarney man was excellent in the two victories over Limerick last year and his inclusion means Cork are set to go with all but one of the 15 that began last year’s All-Ireland semi-final.

Ethan Twomey for Harnedy is the single contrast from that two-point win over John Kiely’s side.

Captain Robert Downey is included in the team despite going off with a leg injury in the 20th minute in the game against Tipperary. The same injury appeared to force him off in the Round 1 game.

Limerick manager John Kiely has made no changes to his announced team for Sunday’s provincial clash with Cork in TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Peter Casey, Declan Hannon and Barry Murphy are included among the substitutes, replacing Ethan Hurley, Donnacha Ó Dálaigh and Eddie Stokes (Doon).

Liam Cahill and Tipperary - who face Waterford at FBD Semple Stadium at 2pm on Sunday - have welcomed back Darragh McCarthy after his suspension. The Toomevara youngster is among the subs for the crucial clash, while Willie Connors replaces Alan Tynan.

Cahill has also included U20 Munster winning captain Sam O’Farrell.

O’Farrell was injured against Clare in Ennis but came on as a second-half substitute against The Banner in the U20 final in Limerick on Wednesday.

Waterford make two alterations from the side that lost to Limerick in Walsh Park earlier this month. Michael Kiely and Gavin Fives come in for Patrick Fitzgerald and Patrick Curran.

Meanwhile, Diarmuid O’Connor is set to make his first appearance for Kerry in two months as he has been named in the team to face Roscommon in Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday.

O’Connor, who had been in excellent form for The Kingdom prior to a shoulder injury sustained against Armagh, has missed the last four matches but comes in for the first match in the Munster victors’s All-Ireland campaign.

Goalkeeper Shane Ryan is also fit to begin the game after missing the Munster final win over Clare with a leg injury that forced him off in the first half of the extra-time win over Cork last month.

That pair are the only alterations from the side that defeated Clare – Paudie Clifford is not included in the squad despite serving his one-match ban. Out of the team go Shane Murphy and Tony Brosnan, who are both on the bench. Joe O’Connor moves to wing forward.

Paul Murphy and Graham O’Sullivan are among the substitutes after injury sidelined them for the Munster final.

Elsewhere, Shane Walsh has been announced in the Galway team that will take on Dublin in their opening All-Ireland group game in Salthill on Saturday.

Walsh has not featured for the Connacht champions since coming off at half-time against Dublin in their Division 1 game in March. He replaces Seán Fitzgerald whose place in the backs is taken by captain Seán Kelly.
