On November 17 of last year, Limerick announced that three-time All-Star goalkeeper Nickie Quaid had ruptured his cruciate. On April 18, Limerick announced Nickie Quaid in goals for their Munster championship opener. At 3.37pm on April 20, Quaid took up station between the sticks for the Limerick warm-up to confirm no lies had been told. A remarkable five-month recovery.

His first possession came just shy of the three-minute mark. He pinged possession into the paw of Gearóid Hegarty in front of the Kinane Stand. The play finished with an Adam English point. His second puck-out went into the hand of Cian Lynch on the far Ryan Stand side. His knee might have suffered, his sharpness and precision had not.
