The top of Division 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Cork Football League is beginning to take shape after Round 4 was played out across the weekend. Clonakilty and St Finbarr’s maintained their flawless starts while Nemo Rangers lie just two points behind them after they bounced back from a defeat to the Barrs in Round 3.
Clonakilty’s superior scoring difference puts them on top of the pile after they edged their neighbours Newcestown by 3-9 to 2-9 at home on Saturday evening. The sides were tied at 0-5 each at the interval before the game exploded into life. Niall Kelly struck for the game’s first major for Newcestown with Conor Daly replying in kind for Clon before Jack Meade and Luke Griffin traded green flags. A second goal from Griffin put Clon in the driving seat, David Lowney put them five clear and though David Buckley brought Newcestown to within a goal, that was that.
