Cork Hurling League round-up: Fr O'Neill's remain top despite Kanturk draw

Fr O’Neill's drew with Kanturk in Aghavine on Sunday morning in Division 1 of the Red FM Cork Hurling League, ensuring that they remain in top spot after Round 3 was played out across the weekend.
It looked like Kanturk were going to take the points when they led by 2-21 to 3-15 before a late goal from Eoin Motherway goal earned the home side a share of the spoils.
Billy Dunne hit Kanturk for 2-1, Conor O'Leary grabbed their other goal while John Millerick and Kevin O'Sullivan both scored 0-4. Alan Walsh once again showed his class by hitting 2-5 for the Duhallow men, Brian O'Sullivan had 0-9 from frees while Cian and Colin Walsh both clipped 0-3.
Carrigtwohill are level with O'Neill's on five points after a late point from Jay Horgan secured them a 0-20 to 2-13 win over Charleville. Sean Walsh led the way for Carrig, as usual, by hitting 0-10 while Patrick Walsh clipped 0-3 and James Mulcahy landed a brace.
Dave O'Riordan struck 1-5 for Charleville, Dan Casey had the other major while Sean Bresnan clipped over a couple of points.
Blackrock leapfrogged their southside neighbours from St Finbarr’s into third place after they beat the Blues by 2-20 to 1-9 in Church Road on Saturday afternoon. A goal from Sam Cunningham, who hit 1-4 on the day, levelled the game at 0-10 to 1-7 four minutes before the break, but from there the Rockies flexed their muscles.
Fionn Coleman continued his good form in hitting 2-2, Ryan Sweeney chipped in with 0-6, PJ Lenihan clipped 0-5 while Tadhg Deasy hit 0-3.
Conor McCarthy and Shane Kennedy also made their mark for an understrength Barrs side.
Douglas is on four points along with the Rockies after they defeated Carrigaline by 1-18 to 0-19 on Sunday morning. Alan Cadogan showed his class for the city men in hitting 0-8, Colm Lucey hit 0-4 while Cian Baldwin had the major. Brian Kelleher top-scored for Carrig with 0-6 while Kevin O'Reilly and Ronan Kelleher hit 0-3 each.
Glen Rovers joined Sarsfields on two points after they beat the Riverstown side by 2-24 to 1-18 in the Glen Field on Friday. Eoin O’Leary was on song for the Glen as he contributed 0-8 while 1-3 from Simon Kennefick, 1-2 from Diarmuid Wall and 0-5 from Dean Brosnan helped them over the line.
Cillian McCarthy took the fight to the Glen for Sars as he clipped 1-2 while Aaron Myers and Shane O’Regan both scored 0-5.
Midleton are the early pace setters in Division 2 as they made it three wins from three after defeating Na Piarsaigh by 2-23 to 2-19 in Midleton on Thursday.
Cormac Beausang was in devastating form for the Magpies as he hit Na Piarsaigh for 2-8, with 2-5 coming from play. Luke O’Farrell helped himself to 0-4, Cormac Walsh clipped 0-4 while Mikey Finn, David Cremin and Paul Connaughton all hit a brace of scores. Pádraig Guest hit 0-7 for a committed Na Piarsaigh outfit, Kevin Moynihan clipped 0-5, Craig Hanafin scored 1-2 while Eoin Galvin landed the other major.
Erin’s Own made it two wins from two after they recorded a 2-16 to 2-12 win away to Killeagh on Thursday. Former Cork minor, Finn O’Brien, caused Killeagh problems in hitting 1-4, Matthew O’Riordan scored 1-2 while the evergreen Eoin Murphy had 0-7 from placed balls.
Killeagh, who has three players in with the Cork U20s, had good performances from Ryan McCarthy, who hit 1-4, Dara Motherway, who hit 1-1 and Richie Long, who clipped 0-6.
Newtownshandrum joined Erin’s Own on four points as a result of their 3-18 to 0-19 win over Fermoy. Ronan Geary had two majors for Newtown, Conor Griffin hit 1-2 while Jamie Coughlan scored 0-5. Three-point contributions from Robert Troy, Conor Twomey and Turlough O’Neill were also crucial in getting them over the line.
Ballincollig took the local bragging rights by beating Éire Óg by 2-19 to 0-9 in Ovens. Cian O'Driscoll and Fintan Denny had the goals for Ballincollig, Stephen Wills hit 0-8 from frees while Brian Keating, Adam Wills and Sean O'Neill all clipped 0-3 as Eoin O'Shea and Kevin Hallissey did the bulk of the scoring for Éire Óg.
Finally, Valley Rovers got the better of their divisional rivals from Ballymartle by 1-22 to 0-14. Eoghan Crowley got the goal for a very balanced Valleys side, while John McCarthy top-scored with 0-6 for Ballymartle.
