A goal from Aoibhe Burke in the 56th minute was the decisive score for Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown in this Allianz Mary Moran Cup final in St Rynagh’s Saturday afternoon. It gave the Kilkenny side a three points lead and the breathing space to take the title for the first time.
Coláiste Mhuire got a great start with the opening four points, including two from Abigail Whitty. However a point, followed by a goal from Hazel Kelly, levelled the game in the 13th minute.
Lillian Cleere’s goal in the 20th minute though put Johnstown in at the break with a three points lead, at 1-5 to 1-2, and Michelle Killeen’s free stretched the lead on the re-start. But Kelly’s second goal in the 39th minute levelled the tie again and the teams traded points ahead of Burke’s goal.
Although Kaitlin Egan narrowed the gap, there were five minutes of added time and points from Abigail Whitty and Taylor Corbett got the Kilkenny side over the line.
