Tipperary forward Aishling Moloney has agreed a new three-year contract extension with Geelong, 24 hours after she was selected in the 2024 AFLW All Australian team.
Moloney and county woman Aisling McCarthy as well as Mayo’s Aileen Gilroy were all included in the All-Star side. Moloney’s award came after an incredible season. She kicked 21 goals to finished tied at the top of the AFLW goal-kicking table. It was the most goals kicked by an individual in a single AFLW season.
The Cahir native was reportedly targeted by interstate outfits, with Sydney interested in making a move. Moloney’s new contract will see her remain with Geelong until at least the end of 2027.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to secure Aishling for the next three years. She’s been a game-changer since joining the Cats and has quickly established herself as a key part of our forward structure,” said Assistant General Manager Brett Johnson.
“To achieve what Aishling has in such a short time is remarkable, from playing her first AFLW game just over a year ago to being named an All-Australian and the joint leading goal scorer in the league, her development has been outstanding.
“We are incredibly excited to see Aishling continue to grow and reach new heights with us, she is a key piece of our future, and we’re eager to watch her future unfold in the Hoops.”
The AFLW Grand Final takes place this Saturday between North Melbourne and Brisbane. There are a host of Irish players involved.
