Following the defeat to Galway on June 29th, the Dublin senior football team and management started into their longest off season since the days of one and done knock out championship football in the 90’s. Every off-season brings questions and the natural turnover of players through retirements and players’ bodies’ inability to continue to push themselves to their limits.

While we have seen an evolution of the Dublin squad since the end of the six-in-a-row group it has been relatively staggered over those years. Once integral figures such as the Brogans, Flynn, MacCauley, Cooper, Rock have all stepped away but in nearly every case it was the logical next step as their influence on the field was waning and they had married a reduced playing role with a continued leadership aspect within the squad, driving others and ensuring the standards they had worked so hard to cultivate remained in place.
