Midleton CBS progressed to the final of the Dean Ryan Cup with a 16-point victory over Nenagh CBS at Ballyagran.
The Cork side got off to a rapid start, scoring the first seven points before Nenagh hit one in reply. Nenagh did come back into the game, finding the net through Rian McGrath after 13 minutes to trail by just three. They reduced the gap to just two shortly after but that was as close as they got.
A powerful run and skilful finish to the net by Dean Murphy in the 19th minute put Midleton 1-11 to 1-4 ahead. By the end of the first half, one in which they hit just one wide, the lead had been extended to 1-17 to 1-9.
Midleton began the second half as they had the first, reeling off five points without reply. They led by 13. Ben Geary, on the field a matter of minutes, got Midleton's second goal with just under 10 mintues to play, making it 2-23 to 1-12.
Midleton ended up with 2-27 on the scoreboard, an impressive 2-19 coming from play, and seven points of that latter number being scored by midfielder Cormac Dean.
"We're delighted with the win," Midleton manager Aylwin Kearney told Clubber TV.
"This is a very, very talented group but you're still conscious on the day that they have to perform. Outside of their talent, their workrate today was unbelievable; even the lads that were scoring down one end, they were working back the whole time.
"It's almost unheard of to have one wide in the first half. We couldn't believe at half-time. That was definitely going to change in the second half but they still plugged away.
"Sam, Cormac Dean, and Tom Walsh they were outstanding sharpshooters. The ball that was being delivered inside was very hard to defend against. Ben Geary came on and scored a goal, he's an outstanding hurler. We're strong past out starting 15."
Kearney his side would be looking forward to playing the North Mon in the final.
"They beat group last year U16," he said.
"They might be the favourites because of that but it'll be a good final."
