Mayo GAA have confirmed that the Senior football final between Ballina Stephenities and Knockmore due to take place on Sunday at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park has been postponed due to the weather warning in place for Mayo and Galway on Sunday.
Met Éireann has issued an Orange wind warning from 12pm to 9pm on Sunday for Mayo and Galway with a yellow wind warning in place for the rest of the country when Storm Ashley hits.
An emergency meeting of the Mayo GAA county board took place this evening with player and supporter safety the main priority and the board decided to postpone the game.
The board consulted with both clubs and the game has been rescheduled for Saturday October 26 in MacHale Park (7pm) and will now be a double header with the Junior football final moved to 4.45pm on the same evening.
Mayo Chairperson Seamus Tuohy thanked both Knockmore and Ballina for their co-operation and said it was the "correct decision for all involved".
He also confirmed that tickets already purchased will be valid for the new fixture date.
Elsewhere, Galway GAA Competitions Control Committee also met this evening and should the Orange weather warning still be in place Saturday at 3pm the games scheduled for Sunday will be postponed.
In the event that the games are postponed, the SHC games will be rescheduled for Saturday October 26 in Kenny Park Athenry with times to be confirmed. Should the games be rearranged the SHC final will take place on Sunday November 10.
Fixtures due to take place on Saturday will continue as scheduled.
