Thomastown got off to a quick start, leading 0-7 to 0-2 after 13 minutes. Ballyhale, the nine-time All-Ireland senior club champions, then came back into the game. They drew level at 0-9 each in the 26th minute but by half-time, Thomastown had retaken their advantage and led 0-12 to 0-10.
Thomastown began the second half as they had started the first, racing into a seven-point lead.
Ballyhale then hit back through Colin Fennelly, returned from Dubai and a cruciate knee ligament injury for the game. By the 53rd minute, Ballyhale had reduced the gap to the minimum but that was as close as they got.

In the other Kilkenny quarter-finals, Tullaroan play Bennettsbridge, Mullinavat face Erins Own, and last season's losing All-Ireland senior finalists O'Loughlin Gaels take on Dicksboro. The latter two games, which were due to be played on Sunday, have been postponed due to an orange weather warning.
