Five-star Portlaw crowned intermediate champions
Portlaw's Joint Captains D.J.Foran and Darren Rockett holds the Cup high much to the delight of their Team Mates following the presentation by Sean Michael O’Regan, Chairman Co. GAA Board.
John Power and Cormac Rooney fired 2-2 apiece as Portlaw celebrated county intermediate success on Saturday night.
The team trained by new Waterford manager Peter Queally tore the Ballyduff Upper defence to pieces. The outcome was never in doubt as the Tannery men raised three green flags inside fourteen minutes. Evan Burrows ended up as top scorer with thirteen points while Jordan O'Sullivan also shook the cobwebs. Cathal Murphy netted two consolation goals for Ballyduff.
Captain Darren Rockett and injured attacker DJ Foran accepted the trophy as the Eastern side made amends for last year's defeat to Brickey Rangers.
DJ's father Daithi died earlier this year and Rockett paid tribute to the legendary club figure and former Waterford hurler. "I could safely say that he has trained every player on that panel at some age. Daithi was massive in our club. There were years where he was over every underage team.
"It's nice to remember Daithi today. Hopefully, he will be looking down a proud man. DJ broke his hand so he wasn't able to play but this was a nice evening for DJ and the Foran family."
