Cork came in search of a first three-in-a-row of championship victories since 2012. But it was Tyrone who came away with a first pair of back-to-back championship wins since their all-conquering campaign of 2021. Their season has turned since the back-to-back defeats to Donegal.

Speaking of Donegal, their demolition of Clare meant Tyrone's four-point victory was not sufficient to purchase them direct passage to the All-Ireland quarter-finals. Still, a home preliminary quarter-final is far more appetising than having to get on the road, as Cork will do, this weekend.
