Rule 20 states that a player must play for the GAA Club in the Parish where they live. It was introduced decades ago as a means of safeguarding smaller clubs.

IT has caused division among neighbours, has families at odds and has been challenged in the courts. In Kerry, and other rural GAA counties, the parish rule is like the third rail of society - do not touch it.

However with the population shift from rural to urban continuing inexorably, it demands clear, strict guidelines and that means further rancour between country and town clubs in the Kingdom.
