McGrath Cup final moved to Saturday
Kerry's Tom O’Sullivan and Luke Connolly of Cork in the 2022 McGrath Cup Final
The McGrath Cup final between Cork and Kerry in Páirc Uí Rinn has been pushed back from tomorrow evening to Saturday afternoon (2pm) due to a frozen pitch.
It is the third game to be postponed in the Munster pre-season competitions because of adverse weather conditions this month. Limerick face Cork in Rathkeale’s Mick Neville Park on Sunday after their Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League game was postponed for the second time on Wednesday – it had been originally scheduled for Mallow on January 7.
The Dioralyte O’Byrne Cup Shield final between Wicklow and Louth, due to take place in Blessington this evening, has also been postponed with a new date yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the Munster SHL final between Waterford and Cork or Limerick could be played on Wednesday, January 24.
Limerick’s challenge game against Tipperary in aid of the Dillon Quirke Foundation in Thurles on Sunday week means the final is unlikely to be rearranged for that weekend should John Kiely’s side qualify for the decider.
While it is understood Waterford are keen for the game to go ahead in the middle of next week as they conclude their league preparations ahead of their Allianz Division 1, Group B campaign. The Déise open the competition away to Offaly in Glenisk O’Connor Park on Sunday, February 4.
The other alternative is to refix the final for one of the two gap weekends during the group stages of the league – February 17/18 or March 2/3.
Because of their superior score difference, Limerick can draw against Cork and set up a date with Waterford.
