A strong second-half performance from Maurice Sheridan’s University of Galway ensured they kept their hopes of winning this year’s Sigerson campaign alive.
Sheridan's outfit outgunned the Sligo college by eight points to no score after the interval.
It was the home side who started the brighter as they opened the scoring through Aaron Kelleghan. The visitors soon settled with two points on the spin before the sides were level with a free from Jack Lavin.
The Galway College took control once again with the impressive Liam Ó Conghaile among the scores for his side.
Lavin kept Sligo in touch with a free before Mayo’s Tommy Conroy was on the mark once again to leave two between the sides.
By the midway point, the sides were level thanks to a super score from Mark Walsh.
Cillian Ó Curraoin put his side back in front with a free but a free before the break from Daire O’Boyle ensured the sides were level at the break.
A seven-minute spell saw Galway University push out the lead with Ryan O’Donoghue also among the scorers.
The home side were pushing to get back in touch but a further four scores rounded off a comprehensive victory in the end for the Galway college.
