WEXFORD hurlers, already hit with a lengthy injury list, have suffered further blows ahead of their opening round Allianz National Hurling League game with Kilkenny.

Corner-back Conor Devitt, along with attacker Connall Flood, have been ruled out of the league campaign joining a lengthy injury list.

Devitt underwent keyhole surgery on a knee problem on Monday last which will keep him out of the game for eight to ten weeks, while Flood is also recovering from a knee procedure.

Manager Keith Rossiter, in his first season in charge, is already resigned to being without experienced players, Dee O'Keeffe (back problem), Liam Óg McGovern (extended break), Conor McDonald (back), Matthew O'Hanlon (returning to training on January 25 after injury), while Oisin Foley (groin) is also likely to miss the league campaign.

Both Ian Carthy and David Clarke, two of last year's side, are travelling and unavailable.

Wexford are in quite a difficult league group having to also face powerhouses Cork, Clare and Waterford, along with Offaly.

Rossiter said he will be taking each game as it comes, opening their 2024 campaign on Sunday next, at home to Carlow in the Walsh Cup.

He says: "There are a handful of players on the treatment table at present," adding, "none of last year's panel have opted out as of yet".
