O’Sullivan named as new Kerry GAA president

Eamonn O'Sullivan is the new Kerry GAA president.

It was one of the quickest and non controversial Kerry GAA County Convention that was held at the Rose Hotel in Tralee.

The entire agenda, including the Secretary’s report, Treasurer's Report, Chairman’s address and the various sub-committee reports, were processed in double quick time with the proceedings taking just one hour and twenty minutes.

The main news from the Convention was the announcement that Eamonn O’Sullivan of Castleisland Desmonds is to be the new president of Kerry GAA, replacing the late Gerald McKenna.

Eamonn succeeded Tony O'Keeffe as rúnaí of Kerry County Board in 2001 and was replaced by Peter Twiss in 2009.

He was also on the management committee in Croke Park from 2009 for a three year period.

He had a proven record of dedication and work ethic as County Board PRO, Munster Council delegate and chairman of the games and administration committee.

His deep knowledge and experience of every aspect of GAA affairs during his tenure as Chairman of the GAC from 1998 to 2001 and previous to that as PRO, Eamonn, along with Dr. Dave Geaney and Tony O'Keeffe, developed and finely tuned fixtures programme of leagues and championships.

As PRO, he pioneered and set the standard for publicising the activities of the GAA in Kerry.

Eamonn is a member of the Castleisland Desmonds Club and is a retired teacher at Castleisland Community College.

He is currently Chairman of the Austin Stack Park Committee and this is a well deserved honour for a very popular administrator.

Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan also announced the appointment of Michael Murphy from Knocknagoshel as the new demographic officer.

The chairman of the SFC Review subcommittee will be Dara O Cinnéide and he will announce the members of his subcommittee in due course. They will report back in late March or early April.

There was only one motion on the agenda as the competition motions had been discussed at the November meeting.

The motion involved the date that a hurling club could amalgamate with another club to play in a U-21 or minor championship.

Kilmoyley wanted to change the notice to be given from Jan 1st to 56 days before the competition was due to start and the CCC agreed and amended the time period to 28 days which was carried.
