Earlier this week, Longford hurling manager Adrian Moran tweeted a photograph of their inner sanctum, a dressing room much like any other, county jerseys hung proudly. With it, he added the words: "The preparations are the same, the sacrifices are the same, love for the game the same. The recognition????? The Respect ?????"

It was a frustrated reaction to the controversial proposal document from the Central Competitions Control Committee that Longford and four other counties be excluded from the Allianz Hurling League from 2025 until they can field five senior hurling clubs in their championships. And that funds spent on league matches would instead be diverted to developing hurling in the counties.
