SCIATH SUCCESS: St. Anthony's Ballinlough celebrate their F1 final victory with the assistance of Kali the dog.
St Anthony’s will be taking the F1 Sciath na Scol trophy back to Ballinlough after they saw off the challenge of a persistent Ovens team in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Wednesday.
They were out of the blocks early with 1-3, Andrew O’Shaughnessy claiming the goal. as he cut in onto his right foot and buried it low into the bottom corner for the ideal opening. A Ted Margey free plus two well-taken points from Eanna Ronan and Teddy Gallagher put Anthony’s six up at the interval (1-3 0-0).
The second half was rich in entertainment with three quick-fire goals to grace the restart. The first came from from Ovens’ Cian Coomey when he was the fastest to respond to a ball palmed away by Anthony’s keeper Harry Jestin-Clark. Anthony’s had the perfect retaliation though with two goals in quick succession from Conor Curran and man of the match Eanna Ronan to get their noses further in front (3-4 to 1-0). A late wonder goal from Teddy Gallagher was the cherry on top for the Ballinlough boys.

St Joseph’s BNS are Sciath na Scol Urban F1 champions after a sterling team performance against a gallant St Patrick’s side saw them across the line in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. St Joseph’s were led by Tim O’Herlihy, Will Pollock and captain Will Twomey, who all put on virtuoso performances to help their school to a memorable victory.
Two goals in the final eight minutes for St Joseph’s were deal sealers, both of them well taken goals from impact subs Adam Hegarty and C.J. Bourke.
St Patrick’s BNS started the brighter with the opening score of the game from half-forward Harry Browne but it wasn’t long after when the opposition found the net. Catching the ball in the square Will Pollock took his opportunity, burying it past Patrick’s keeper Calvin Corcoran.
St Patrick’s had the perfect response though with a goal of their own. Horen Tadjoa was quickest to pounce on a rebound in the square after nine minutes, putting his side ahead momentarily.

St Joseph’s Will Twomey put together a string of three scores to give his team a healthy advantage. Matthew Coughlan, Dan O’Sullivan, Tim O’Herlihy scored points just before the break to give the Mardyke school a seven-point lead. (1-1 to 2-5).
St Joseph’s stepped up a gear in the second period. Nine scores on the bounce put them firmly in the driving seat and looking in great shape for a victory. St Patrick’s captain Harry Browne scored a goal late on to give the travelling Patrick’s fans a reason to cheer.
Man of the Match Tim O’Herlihy fittingly got the final two scores of the game to top off a perfect day for St Joseph’s.

Curraglass were too strong for a resilient Ballynoe in the girls' DGF9 decider at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. A first half goal from Aideen O’Connor and points from Player of the Match Aoife O’Connor and joint captain Bebhinn O’Regan-Seadon set them off on the right track. Ballynoe defender Kate O’Connell pulled one back for her side just before the short whistle was blown. Going into the second half Curraglass would have a five point advantage (1-3 0-1).
Grace Higgins and Jill Beecher showed exemplary leadership, battling hard for Ballynoe, doing their utmost to keep their team in the contest.
However, the second half was the Aoife O’Connor show as she converted an impressive 3-5 tally to seal the deal for Curraglass. O’Connor scored two goals in a flash, the first coming after a brilliant solo run that ended with the ball being punted high into the net. The second goal was another piece of brilliant skill by O’Connor, this time beating two Ballynoe players and firing it low past the keeper (3-4 to 0-1).
The star woman contributed six scores on the bounce including those two goals. Her accuracy from distance led to a list of crucial scores late on to help Curraglass take home precious silverware.

Ballynoe wouldn’t be walking home empty handed though. They were spellbinding against Bartlemy in the DF9 final. Kenneth O’Connell was the main man for Ballynoe, scoring 3-5 in a display of domination.
O’Connell scored his first two goals of the game minutes before the break to give Ballynoe some breathing space. His first goal came from pure speed and strength as he burst through on goal, beating the last man and slotting it past the keeper low into the net.
The second was a long range effort that looked like it might be going over but somehow ended up in the net. Jack Gubbins and Thomas Hegarty scored two beautiful points before half time to keep Bartlemy in the fight. Ballynoe would head in 3-5 to 0-2 ahead at the break.
Bartlemy were excellent in the second period, putting some nice sequences of play together. Their best spell of the half came with five minutes to go when they scored 1-1 in quick succession to put some doubt in Ballynoe minds. The goal was a quick bit of thinking by Bartlemy star player Diurmuid O’Regan, lobbing the ball over Ballynoe keeper Adam Fitzgerald as he was running back to his line.
Unfortunately for them, in the end Ballynoe would prove too strong, with a slew of scores coming down the home stretch. Late goals from star man O’Connell and sub James Beecher sealed the win but not before a brave Bartlemy put up one last fight. Two late points from Diurmuid O’Regan and one from Thomas Hegarty meant Bartlemy would finish off on a positive note.
