Sciath na Scol finals: Considine bags four goals for Eglantine, Farran's extra time delight
GOAL-GETTER: Sophia Considine, Eglantine, celebrating with her winning medal and her four goals.
Eglantine came out on top in a classic Sciath na Scol final on Thursday at Páirc Ui Chaoimh against an excellent Watergrasshill side. Incredible displays from Eglantine's Sophia Considine and Watergrasshill’s Kate O’Connell lit up the occasion and made it one of the most exciting Sciath finals this year.
Sophia Fitzgerald kicked things off with an early goal for Eglantine. Considine followed suit three minutes later, scoring another goal for Eglantine from close range.
Watergrasshill’s O’Connell narrowed the deficit with two quick fire scores from frees. However, less than two minutes later Considine sent another dagger through Watergrasshill hearts with a brilliant solo goal that saw her beat three players and bury it in the bottom right corner.
Kate O’Connell soon converted perhaps the score of the game. A free from a very tight angle that a senior footballer would be proud of. O’Connell was at it again just before the whistle with another free. This time the ball ended up in the net though, bouncing in from range. Going in at the break Eglantine lead by four (1-3 to 3-1).
Lucy Cleary contributed to the Watergrasshill comeback with a goal of her own after 25 mins to draw the game level. This was seemingly the wake up call Eglantine needed as they converted 1-1 themselves in the next couple of minutes, the goal coming from Considine for her hat-trick.
Kate O’Connell had the perfect response though, another long range free, another goal. This brought it back to a one point game.
Sophia Considine was doing her best to wrestle the man of the match award from Kate O’Connell as she scored her fourth goal of the game five minutes from time to seal the win for Eglantine.

Farran are the DF4 champions after braving out a tough contest in extra-time with Crossmahon at Páirc Ui Chaoimh. The teams couldn’t be separated at the final whistle so it came down to four accurate Ciaran O’Sullivan frees for Farran to settle the contest.
Farran were good value for their two point lead at the break (2-2 to 1-3) after a brilliant first half showing that included two quick fire goals from Seán Buttimer, both excellent strikes from difficult angles.

Crossmahon would come out fighting in the second period. Ewen Hourigan and Jack O’Regan scored two points early in the second half to draw the game level for the first time.
A Jack O’Regan free two minutes from time put Crossmahon ahead but Farran half-back Charlie Hayfield responded seconds later to tie it up once more.
Farran thought they had wrapped it up with a goal from Eoghan O’Brien very late in the day but referee Colm Lyons pulled it back for traveling.
Jack O’Regan proved he was the coolest man in the stadium once again, converting a free with seconds left to bring the contest to extra time (2-4 1-7).
Farran had the final say though, with four Ciaran O’Sullivan frees to seal the deal and win the day.

In the final game of an exciting day of football, Castlemartyr won the DGF4 final after a sterling display fantastic team performance saw them hold off the challenge of Farran.
Brooke Holland got things underway in style with two brilliant scores with Shauna O’Mahony threading the eye of the needle twice after that to give Castlemartry a four point lead early on.
One more conversion just before the small whistle from Grace Forrest put Castlemartyr in control going into the second period (0-5 to 0-0).
Farran keeper Grace Aldworth kept her side in the fight with an impressive double save after 18 mins but Aoife Clifford would have the ball in the net for Castlemartyr’s first goal only seconds later with a powerful low-drilled shot into the bottom left corner (1-5 0-0).
Lily May Healy converted a free for Farran with finesse to narrow the gap on 21 minutes. Anna Skally would do likewise a couple of minutes later to draw Farran closer.
It wasn’t long after though when Grace Forrest smashed the ball into the net to the joy of Castlemartyr’s traveling pack but it was a quick response from Farran. Anna Skally found the net to keep Farran’s hopes alive.
However, despite three late Farran points from Isabelle White, Esme O’Hanlon and Lily May Healy (and a huge fighting spirit) it was Castlemartyr who took the spoils.
