David Clifford will be among a host of Kerry greats at the county's centre of excellence in Currans Thursday to launch Hike for Haulie, a fundraiser in honour of Micheál 'Haulie' O'Dwyer, the late son of legendary Kingdom manager Mick O'Dwyer.

Several generations of All-Ireland winners will be represented with Colm Cooper, Tomás Ó Sé, Mikey Sheehy, Ógie Moran and Eoin Liston also set to attend.

The hike will take place from Waterville GAA Club on December 30th. Haulie O'Dwyer, who passed away last October after a short illness, was a stalwart servant of the club.

The club said: "Haulie served at all levels with the club as a mentor and committee member. His contribution is immense and his imprint will be felt for years to come. His style was always to encourage and support and his loyalty to club and parish was clearly evident.

"All who worked with Haulie enjoyed the experience and found him to be the kindest and most considerate and encouraging of people."

Haulie passed away in the care of the Tralee Palliative Care Unit and the fundraiser will benefit equally Comfort for Chemo and the Kerry Hospice service.

Organisers say: "He was a great community man, a GAA man and business owner. A man who always had a smile on his face and a cheery greeting for everyone. He took on his cancer diagnosis with typical bravery and positivity.

"During his illness he received superb care from both Comfort for Chemo and the Kerry Hospice service. With that in mind, and to honour his life and his memory, we are organising a fundraising hike on December 30th from Waterville GAA club. All proceeds will be divided evenly between these two worthy causes."

The launch takes place Thursday, October 5th at 5pm at the Centre of Excellence. To donate, visit gofundme.com/hike-for-haulie
